Farnborough to mark Alan Taylor tribute before Dagenham visit

Farnborough are back at the Saunders Transport Community Stadium on Saturday 17 October, hosting Dagenham & Redbridge in the Enterprise National League South at 3pm. It marks Boro's first home game of October.

Before kick-off there will be a minute's applause in memory of Alan Taylor, the former Farnborough Town manager. An earlier club notice referred to a minute's silence; the fuller club statement confirms applause. Taylor joined Farnborough Town in July 1986 to assist long-serving manager Ted Pearce, and took over from him in April 1993. In his first full season in charge he guided the club to the Southern League Premier Division title in 1993/94, securing an immediate return to Conference status. He stayed until May 1998, then spent seven years as manager of Bracknell Town. The club said he was a tremendously popular figure among supporters, players and everyone involved at the club.

On the pitch, Spencer Day's side aim to bounce back from their defeat at Billericay Town. The club has also confirmed that Tate Xavier-Jones's loan from Luton Town has been extended for a further month.

Supporters can also take part in several new match-day activities. A new Half-Time Challenge, sponsored by BR Saunders Transport, gives Golden Goal ticket holders, drawn at random, the chance to kick from the 18-yard line and land the ball on the centre spot for a £500 jackpot. If nobody succeeds, the jackpot rises by £50 each week, and the closest kick wins a £25 food and bar voucher. Tickets are sold inside the stadium before kick-off.

A KidZone will operate in the Community Hub from 2pm to 4pm, and the Cherrywood Bar, food outlets, Coffee Corner and Club Shop will be open, the shop stocking the 26/27 Macron range from 1pm. Season ticket holders have been offered 10 free tickets for friends, family and colleagues under a Bring 10 to Boro scheme, with interested supporters asked to email the club's commercial address.

The club also hosts its women's side against Sholing Women on Sunday 18 October at 2pm, making a weekend of back-to-back home fixtures.
