Bognor lead Isthmian South Central while Portchester's unbeaten run ends

Bognor Regis Town tightened their grip on top spot this week. According to the club, a 7-0 win over Hartley Wintney made them the division's top scorers, and they sat unbeaten and eight points clear before Saturday's visit of Binfield. That game ended 2-1, and the club's own coverage described it as a stoppage-time comeback, with skipper Tommy Block named man of the match.

The club also announced Timmy Abraham on a dual-registration deal from Gosport Borough. Bognor have been without a recognised frontman for much of the campaign because of Cal Laycock's injury, with Luke Roberts leading the line on a makeshift basis.

Behind them, AFC Portchester lost their unbeaten league record, beaten 2-1 by Ashford Town at Gosport Borough's AEI Stadium, where they are playing home games until their own ground reopens. Arif Bala and Ben Mulley scored for the visitors and Jason Prior equalised in between. The club's report spoke of a lack of cutting edge, and noted a possible offside in the build-up to Ashford's second. Before the game Portchester had won four and drawn four, conceding only two league goals. Their grand re-opening at The OnSite Group Stadium, after a £1.2m 3G pitch and stadium project, is set for 24 October.

Moneyfields extended their league run. They beat Hartley Wintney 3-2, with Sam Ashton scoring twice, and then won 2-1 against Ascot United in midweek. Ascot had drawn 1-1 with Harrow Borough on Saturday. Lui Edwards scored their penalty, but debutant Jacob Wilson was sent off for a second yellow card.

In the Isthmian North, Canvey Island had a difficult week. They lost 3-1 at home to Fakenham Town, which gave the visitors their first league win at this level, and then went out of the Essex Senior Cup 6-0 at Hullbridge Sports, finishing with ten men. Before those games vice chairman Harry Palmer wrote to supporters, backing manager Kevin Horlock and saying injuries had left the squad short in several areas. Elsewhere in the division, Grays Athletic lost 5-1 at home to Hashtag United, who stay top, and Grays' report called it a fifth straight defeat.
